Mike Duffy: I was wondering when you go from high school, minor leagues, to the majors, what was the biggest challenge when you reach each stage?
Jared Johnson: I think the biggest challenge is being able to mature at each level and able to absorb all the information needed to get you to the next level.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite thing about being a National?
Jared Johnson: My favorite thing about being a national is the opportunity that I’m getting with them and the great people that I’ve met in the organization.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite hobby besides baseball?
Jared Johnson: I enjoy a lot of things outside baseball. Everything outdoors is what I’ve done my whole life. Fishing and hunting are a huge part of my life outside of baseball.
Mike Duffy: What was your favorite team growing up?
Jared Johnson: My favorite team growing up was the Florida marlins because I grew up in south Florida.
Mike Duffy: What are your goals for this season?
Jared Johnson: My goals for this season is to do the best that I can for the team and the organization and to stay healthy.
Mike Duffy: How did draft day feel?
Jared Johnson: Draft day was one of the best moments of my life because of the obstacles that I have overcome and the hard work it took to get here.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite stadium?
Jared Johnson: I have only been to a handful of stadiums but my favorite as of now is the new marlins stadium.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite movie?
Jared Johnson: Favorite movie would be Moneyball.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite tv show?
Jared Johnson: Favorite tv show is sons of anarchy.
Mike Duffy: Do you have a motto or a thing to do to get you out of a rough time?
Jared Johnson: My motto is to keep going don’t let things get you down. When there’s a will there’s a way.
Mike Duffy: When did you know you wanted to play professional baseball?
Jared Johnson: I knew I wanted to play professional baseball from the time I started playing baseball when I was 4.
Mike Duffy: What is your favorite thing about being a pitcher? Hardest thing?
Jared Johnson: My favorite thing about being a pitcher is that you’re in control of the game set the tone for your team. The hardest thing is being consistent with everything but that comes with practice.
Mike Duffy: So far this season you have put up some really good numbers, what do you attribute that to?
Jared Johnson: I attribute that to the hard work and dedication that has gotten me to where I am today but I’m nowhere near my potential so I have a long way to go.
Mike Duffy: So far the GCL Nationals are the best team in the league, are you guys enjoying being in first place?
Jared Johnson: We aren’t really concerned about what place we’re in. All we’re worried about is doing the best we can every single day and helping each other be the best.
