Mike Duffy: I was wondering when you go from high school, College, to the minor leagues, what was the biggest challenge when you reach each stage?

Trevor Bettencourt: One of the biggest things I noticed from high school to now is the ability to throw more competitive strikes. I remember in high school and could just keep flipping curveballs and was able to get outs. As I progressed I had to start adding more command of fastballs and cutters which I have always had trouble with. The Phillies have really helped me command the zone a lot better than I ever have before.

Mike Duffy: What’s your favorite thing about being a Philly?

Trevor Bettencourt: The people in the organization. The organization itself has a lot of history and I am really excited about being a Philly in general. But from the office to the guys on the field the amount of just good genuine people is outstanding. There are many people on this organization both coaches and players that I would run through a wall for.

Mike Duffy: What’s your favorite hobby besides baseball?

Trevor Bettencourt: Would probably have to go with golf or fishing. Also pretty big fan of gaming.

Mike Duffy: Goals for this off season?

Trevor Bettencourt: Working on developing another pitch to help me set guys up a little more and just my body in general. Would like to see if I can come into spring in even better shape than last year. I workout at a place called Sparta Science in Menlo Park California. Same place Knapp goes to.

Mike Duffy: Do you have a motto or a thing to do to get you out of a rough time?

Trevor Bettencourt: I have a couple, one of my favorite is from Forrest Gump,” Sh*t Happens” haha! But I mean we play a game of failure weird stuff happens all the time. And one my dad told me that helps me is, ” Strive for perfection knowing you can never achieve it, although on any given day you can be perfect.”

Mike Duffy: When did you know you wanted to play professional baseball?

Trevor Bettencourt: Oh man, from when I was a little kid, I mean when you are young and you see these guys on the field they look like superheroes in your mind. So you want to be just like them.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite baseball memory?

Trevor Bettencourt: 110% going to the college World Series with UCSB in 2016. Not only the experience of the CWS but how we got there still brings chills to my body when I think about it. I believe it was a 23 day trip from start to finish and with out a doubt one of the best times of my life.
