Daniel Swain

Interviewed By Mike Duffy

Mike Duffy: I was wondering  when you go from high school to Siena, to the minor leagues, what was the biggest challenge when you reach each stage?

Daniel Swain: I think the biggest challenge of going through high school, to college, then to minor league baseball is every step of the way, the pitching gets better and more consistent. Pitchers throw harder, have better secondary pitches, and it is up to you to make the adjustment if you want to be successful.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite thing about being a Dback?

Daniel Swain: My favorite thing about being a Dback is the way the organization takes care of us. The training staff was great at dealing with aches and pains that come with playing a full season, and the coaches I’ve met have all been intelligent and supportive.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite hobby besides baseball?

Daniel Swain: My favorite hobby besides baseball is snowboarding. I haven’t been able to for a while but when my baseball career is over I’d like to get back into it.

Mike Duffy: Who was your favorite baseball player growing up?

Daniel Swain: My favorite baseball player growing up was Manny Ramirez. I grew up close to Boston and I’ve tried to imitate his swing probably since Little League.

Mike Duffy: What was your favorite team growing up?

Daniel Swain: I grew up in Newton, MA, so I was a big Red Sox fan growing up. I remember my mom let me skip school in 2004 so that we could go to the parade together.

Mike Duffy: Goals for this offseason?

Daniel Swain: I have about three goals for the offseason, I want to hit the weight room hard so I can put on a little bit of weight. I want to simplify my swing so I am more consistent in games. Finally, I’d like to improve my speed and footwork so I can show the Dbacks that I can play centerfield.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite stadium?

Daniel Swain: My favorite stadium is Fenway Park, which shouldn’t be surprising because of how big a Red Sox fan I was.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite movie? What is your favorite T.V. Show?

Daniel Swain: My favorite movie is Ex Machina, I’d say I’m a bit of a science fiction nerd. My favorite TV show is Parks & Recreation.

Mike Duffy: What is your biggest takeaway after this season?

Daniel Swain: I had a very general takeaway from my first season. I found out that I have a lot of room to improve if I want to make myself an MLB caliber player.

Mike Duffy: Who is your favorite Musician and song?

Daniel Swain: My favorite albums are The College Dropout by Kanye West, or Alive 2007 by Daft Punk.
