Mike Duffy: I was wondering when you go from high school to college, to the minor leagues, what was the biggest challenge when you reach each stage?

James Nelson: The Biggest challenge is the everyday grind you have to go through in pro ball. Waking up super early to go to the field, working out, then playing a game after a full field workout. It’s a lot but it pays off and it helps you as a ball player.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite thing about being a Marlin?

James Nelson: My favorite thing about being a Marlins is just the atmosphere and the will to get better as far as the coaches helping the players and the players helping each other. It’s like one big family.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite hobby besides baseball?

James Nelson: I love video games.. I can sit and play the game from sunrise to sun set!

Mike Duffy: Who was your favorite baseball player growing up?

James Nelson: My favorite player (believe it or not) is the man Derek Jeter. I just loved how he carried himself on the field and how he played the game.

Mike Duffy: How do you feel getting to play in Jeter’s organization?

James Nelson: I am very excited!

Mike Duffy: What was your favorite team growing up?

James Nelson: My favorite team growing up was the Yankees. My family is a competitive family and my pops always liked the Red Sox, and that’s how I grew liking the Yankees.

Mike Duffy: Do you have any game day superstitions?

James Nelson: My game day superstition is what I eat in the morning and in the locker room. If I do bad that day I probably won’t eat the same thing the next day.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite stadium?

James Nelson: My favorite Stadium is definitely Marlins Park. It’s just a nice looking park and I like Miami.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite Movie? What is your favorite T.V. Show?

James Nelson: My favorite movie is probably Toy Story and my favorite tv show is the Blacklist.

Mike Duffy: Do you have a motto or a thing to do to get you out of a rough time?

James Nelson: I have a bible scripture that my parents always told me when I was young.. Philippians 4:13 – I can do all thing through Christ which strengthen me.

Mike Duffy: When did you know you wanted to play professional baseball?

James Nelson: I grew up around baseball. My uncle, Chris Nelson, played professionally and I always use to be in the dugout with him even before he made it professional.

Mike Duffy: What is your favorite baseball memory?

James Nelson: My favorite baseball memory was winning the state Championship at Redan because we were the first team to do it out of school history.

Mike Duffy: Who is your favorite Musician? What is your favorite song?

James Nelson: My favorite musician is either lil Wayne or Drake.. and my favorite song is by both of them, and it is “Right above it.”
